Healthy eating improves our overall well-being and Wake Robin products can contribute to a healthy diet in important ways:
- Vegetables and fruits in our diet are considered critical to good nutrition and health. The USDA’s Choose My Plate initiative recommends that half of your plate be comprised of fruits and vegetables and offers valuable advice on how to achieve that goal. Vegetables are low in calories and a good source of potassium, fiber, folic acid, and vitamins A and C.
- The vegetables we use in Wake Robin products are among the most nutritious, common vegetables in U.S. diets, especially carrots, beets, garlic, and ginger.
- Our products, when eaten without cooking, are an important source of probiotics, a class of bacteria that are increasingly thought to be important to gut health. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health offers a useful summary about how probiotics may help with a number of health conditions. It’s also a good place to learn about microbiome, the community of microorganisms that live on and in each of us.
Fundamental to the preservation method we employ is the use of salt. Our products are generally 2% sodium. We only use sea salt, without any additives, in our recipes. People on low sodium diets should use our products with care.
